Seth Lartey

Capacity Development Manager (Civil Society)

Seth is the Capacity Development Manager at the Commonwealth Foundation. He joined the Commonwealth Foundation from his last post as Information Officer at the Council for Education in World Citizenship. Prior to that he was employed by the Ghana Education Service.  Seth established the Foundation’s current civil society programme which focuses on civic education, capacity development, strengthening relationships between civil society and multilateral relations organisations, and research. He has a wealth of experience in developing and managing programmes, strategic planning; as well as civil society strengthening and alliance-building.

Over the years he has developed a reputation for facilitating closer working relations between governments and civil society. His work has led to the design and publishing of the Commonwealth Civil Society Accountability Toolkit Series. Toolkits have been published for Belize, India, Uganda, Pacific Islands, Sierra Leone, and Trinidad and TobagoIn addition he is the co-author of Breaking the Taboo: Perspectives African Civil Society on Innovative Sources of Financing Development (2008); and recently published Governance in the Commonwealth: Current Debates (2010). He is an experienced researcher, project manager, facilitator and negotiator, and also has expertise in organisational development. He has served as a resource person for the UNDP on governance issues and more recently he was a member of a peer review team for an UNCTAD report on the Lesotho National Services Policy Review.

Seth was educated at the University of Cape Coast (Ghana), University of East Anglia (UK) and Birkbeck College, University of London (UK).
