We help civil society organisations to apply principles of transparency and accountability to their own work.
Civil society plays an indispensable role in holding government administrations to account, promoting openness in Commonwealth societies and enabling the fair and efficient application of law and public services.
Yet civil society organisations themselves are coming under increased scrutiny today. With pressure from donors, governments and the public, they must be wholly transparent about their own operations, activities and sources of funding.
We generate practical resources, research and case studies on principles of transparency and accountability for civil society organisations working in Commonwealth countries.
Bolstering skills in areas such as monitoring, reporting and complaints resolution, we also promote strong links and knowledge sharing among likeminded organisations.
Toolkits and resources
We have partnered with the One World Trust, an independent think tank, on a pilot project to produce tailor-made accountability toolkits with groups in Uganda, Belize, India and the Pacific region.
Offering guidance on transforming rhetoric into reality, as well as developing communities of practice, these toolkits are useful to any individual, organisation or government official interested in improving their understanding of good governance.
