Public perception of the civil society sector has an impact on its operations, sustainability and also the sector’s ability to advocate effectively. What can we do to position ourselves better and communicate in a much more effective manner? The subject of CSO accountability has indeed become a buzz word and I can hear the discussions going on even in the background. Thanks to all of you for the contributions and I could not agree more with your comments. Reports from a more global perspective (CIVICUS and the Commonwealth Foundation) to specific country contributions (Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mexico, Uganda) are overwhelming. Civil Society accountability is often approached as a tick-box exercise and not a core motivating factor in the organisation’s operations. This discussion on accountability is intended to help CSOs reflect on their own accountability and motivations for being accountable.
