The 2011 Commonwealth People’s Forum was held in Perth, Western Australia, from 25 to 27 October.
The Commonwealth People’s Forum (CPF), brings together civil society representatives from around the world, to discuss and debate key issues facing Commonwealth people. Held every two years in the run up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), the CPF is the single biggest opportunity for civil society to engage with Commonwealth leaders on global development issues.
The 2011 CPF was organised by the Commonwealth Foundation and hosted by the Western Australian Council of Social Service with the support of the Australian Government and the Western Australian Government.
Driving Change for a Dynamic Commonwealth
The theme of 2011’s Forum speaks to the process of reform that the Commonwealth has embarked upon. It challenges the Commonwealth to see itself as more than an association of governments but as a contemporary network of people and their interests. The theme asserts that these groups and organisations are not an accessory for the Commonwealth, but an integral part of its fabric. More than this, the energy, innovation and creativity required for the Commonwealth’s renewal can be found in people’s organisations delivering locally, influencing nationally or connecting internationally.
