About the scheme

Since 1987, over 100 individual artists have benefited from the residencies, and many friendships have been forged, skills and ideas exchanged and new opportunities taken.

The residencies are open to artists from Commonwealth countries. Normally they are offered for a period of between three to nine months, and each residency is worth up to £8,000. We particularly wish to support artists who have not had many opportunities to travel, and who are ready to fulfil their potential through such opportunities as the residencies.

We are interested in innovative proposals and in art which engages with the wider community.

The Commonwealth Connections residency scheme is opening out to encompass a wider range of artforms, including performing arts. What was originally a two-yearly scheme is becoming a more regular rolling one which will serve more people, and to which can be added additional residency opportunities, developed in collaboration with new partners and supporters.
