Commonwealth Engineers Council (CEC)

Commonwealth Engineers' Council (CEC)

Commonwealth Engineers' Council (CEC) is a professional body for all engineers of the Commonwealth. Representing 46 engineering institutions in 44 countries across five continents, CEC is a truly global organisation whose aim is to advance the science, art and practice of engineering for the benefit of mankind.

CEC has been successful in its original aim of encouraging and developing national engineering institutions in its member countries. Its aim now is to encourage regional co-operation between its members, within a global context. As part of that function it presents the views of the profession to pan-Commonwealth bodies e.g. the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Foundation.

A main priority of CEC in the 21st century is to promote and foster the development of young engineers throughout the Commonwealth, in particular through their engagement in sustainable development and poverty alleviation. CEC is working closely with the International Young Professionals Foundation (IYPF) and other international and Commonwealth bodies engaged in sustainability, especially in the follow-up to the Johannesburg Millennium Goals.
