Vijay Krishnarayan
Deputy Director
Vijay Krishnarayan is the Deputy Director of the Commonwealth Foundation. Over the past 25 years, Vijay has supported civil society organisations in the United Kingdom and the Caribbean.
In London, he worked in Brixton and Hackney on community action for the environment and joined the National Council for Voluntary Organisations to facilitate the development of environmental networks.
Vijay left the UK for the Caribbean in the mid 90s, joining one of Belize's leading NGOs to focus on environmental policy. He went on to work for one of the region's sustainable development think tanks - the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI). Based in Saint Lucia and then Trinidad (his parents’ home) he went on to become the Institute's Managing Partner before returning to the UK. A land-use planner by training Vijay has a special interest in the relationship between development and the environment. He is a member of the Board of the Community Development Journal.
Vijay enjoys spending time with his young family, following the Arsenal Football Club and watching test cricket.
