The Commonwealth Foundation is proud to be supporting Connecting Voices: Films from the Commonwealth, a screening at the 2009 Birds Eye View Festival, a special programme presenting the best of Commonwealth talent with an Indian documentary, Kenyan drama and animation from Trinidad and Tobago. 

Directors, Leena Manimekalai and Camille Selvon Abrahams join us for a Question and Answer session after the screening. The Q and A will be chaired by Pratibha Parmar.

The films

Goddesses

A mesmerising and award-winning portrait of three women - a funeral singer, a gravedigger and a fisherwoman – and their lone struggle to carve out a place in a ruthless world. 

Ras Star
Dir. Wunuri Kahiu, Kenya/South Africa, 2006, 25min

From Kenya's brightest young film talent comes this short feature about a girl whose dream of becoming Nairobi's best rapper is at odds with the wishes of her traditional Muslim family. 

The Vegetarian Super Machine

A mysterious Caribbean treasure hunt.
