Caribbean

The Commonwealth Foundation achieved another milestone in its fight against the pandemic of HIV/AIDS when it launched the Pan-Commonwealth Civil Society Network on HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean in September 2007.

The Foundation, in partnership with PANOS Caribbean, organised a workshop to launch the Network and develop a collaborative strategy through which Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the region can strengthen programmes aimed at halting and reversing the spread of HIV and AIDS. The launch ceremony and workshop were held from 25 to 26 September 2007, in Antigua and Barbuda.

The specific objectives of the workshop were to:
- Provide an opportunity for civil society organisations in the Caribbean to share experiences and challenges in their work in the field of HIV and AIDS.
- Highlight challenges that exist across the Commonwealth to HIV and AIDS prevention education and access to treatment and care.
- Explore how to develop effective and innovative partnerships between CSOs and national governments within the Commonwealth, on HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment and care programmes.

More information about the Pan-Commonwealth Network in the Caribbean will be available on our website soon.
